Have you ever seen the TV programme Gold Divers on the Discovery Channel where teams either dive to prospect for gold or excavate/dredge using excavators operated from floating platforms. Well rather reminiscent of that dredging activity and the long reach excavators, a similar machine is being used on our own stretch of Bering Sea, (Doughty Lake between Sutton & Lound) to clear silt and add depth to the fishing lake. Perched rather precariously on the bank the machine grab removes the silt and dumps it alongside the lake for subsequent removal. Certainly no gold to be seen in the heaps of spoil but then the fishery must she doing quite well to justify the work in progress. Image from early this morning (September 9th).
