Retford Market basked in the hot sunshine today and shoppers were there in good numbers both on the market square and in the shops. It seems that finally Retford is coming back to life with Traders reporting good business and shoppers good humouredly practising social distancing still set at 2 metres. Interesting that a number of Traders and Shoppers alike declared that whatever the relaxation of Social Distancing rules they would likely maintain the current distancing until they felt it appropriate and safe to change. Out and about in Retford were the Bid Ambassadors, Covid Support Team and of course the Market Team who had once again made a good job of the stall distancing and access for shoppers. On the day that we hear that pubs and restaurants will be able to place tables in front of their premises we wondered how they will cope with the cleaning down of tables and chairs, presumably required between customers. As an example perhaps, the image above of BDC employee Neil using a sprayer and disinfectant to sanitise in and around Retford town centre today. It struck the writer that Parish Councils might like to consider using a similar sprayer to disinfect the kiddies play area recreational equipment. Wilkinsons are set to see a run on sprayer purchases over the next few weeks, methinks.
