There have been some posts on social media suggesting that the Council will be reopening markets.
Guidance issued by Government indicates that, similar to supermarkets, Market stalls which offer essential retail, such as grocery and food can continue to trade provided arrangements can be made to take account of social distancing and other arrangements to protect the public and traders.
Whilst the markets did run for a short time after the guidance was issued, the lack of trade and shortage of supplies meant that it was no longer practical to hold them. The Council has been approached by food and grocery traders who have indicated that they were now in a position to obtain the necessary supplies and would like to be able to attend one of the regular markets.
Council Officers have therefore been reviewing whether it is appropriate to hold markets in Worksop and Retford and whether suitable provision can be made for social distancing and public protection. However at this point they are not satisfied that this can be done and until they can ensure that suitable, robust arrangements can be put in place there will be no markets in either Worksop or Retford.
