As part of the quest to source PPE for the NHS and other front line staff our local airport has been handling some rather valuable cargo. In addition to bringing in some 5,000 tonnes of freight through the airport since 15th March, which accounts for an increase of 45% in freight shipped over the same period last year, there are cargoes of PPE, some 300 tonnes of much needed PPE scheduled. Some of that turned up over the last weekend. Keen spotters would have seen a Norwind Boeing 777 passenger jet flying overhead on its way to a landing at Doncaster. Containing some 22 tonnes of PPE in the passenger compartments and hold. Seen being offloaded by hand in the image above. The plane came from and returned to Moscow. Looks like the Russians are our allies again much as the were in the last war and again in the war against the virus. Full marks to the consortium of companies who have changed their business models to accommodate and literally come up with the goods. The PPE was sourced by Ligentia, imported by IMS Group and of course handled by the cargo team at Robin Hood. Ligentia report that there are another 100 flights from China over the next couple of months. Well done to all of you at Doncaster Sheffield/Robin Hood.
