With celebrations observing the lock down things were a little more subdued than might have been anticipated. Sure there were a few residents in front of houses with celebrations and banners and bunting in plenty. But not the street parties that a number of communities had planned. The latter are on hold for next year (so we believe). This writer, nearly old enough to remember the celebrations of 1945 in person, remembered our great war time leader with the same affection, inherited as it was from parents during a childhood where Churchill was revered as the leader “who got us through it”. There will never be another so admired and loved by our country. Certainly not from the current crop.
